On the occasion of World AIDS Day – held annually on December 1st – the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized a Press Festival on HIV/AIDS here in Tehran. The objective of this festival was to raise public awareness on the issue of HIV/AIDS and more specifically to educate the public on reducing stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS.
In 2012, 25.3 million people globally were living with HIV while 2.3 million people became newly infected with HIV. During the same year, 1.6 million people died from AIDS-related illnesses. Since 1988, the day has been devoted to uniting people worldwide in the fight against HIV. It is a day to show support for people living with HIV and remember those who have lost their lives to this disease. ...
