Just as the UN seeks "to harmonise the actions of all nations" on a global level, it also aims to coordinate the operational activities of the United Nations system within each country. As the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General, the Resident Coordinator assumes overall responsibility for, and coordination of, UN operational activities at the country level. Under the aegis of the Resident Coordinator, the UN agencies and programmes represented in Iran have composed the UN Country Team which works together in identifying areas for UN System interventions, work and collaboration.
As in most countries, the UNDP Resident Representative in Iran also serves as the Resident Coordinator. Under his supervision, the Resident Coordinator Support Unit works to ensure coordination among the UN agencies, through regular Inter-Agency meetings and follow up on joint and collaborative activities. Additionally, the unit ensures a coordinated follow up to global UN Conferences; works to ensure common approaches to cross-cutting issues such as the harmonization of programme cycles, common premises and common services; coordinates the inter-agency theme groups and taskforces; and follows up with the CCA/UNDAF process. For information about activities under the Resident Coordinator System, please study the RC Annual Report at UNDG site under Resident Coordinator System www.undg.org
