13 Feb 2019 - The United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) Vacancy Announcement

The United Nations (UN) is seeking judges for its internal system of administration of justice that addresses employment-related disputes.

The internal justice system includes a first instance United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) and an appellate instance United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT).

The UNDT sits in New York, Geneva and Nairobi and is comprised of three full-time judges and six half-time judges. The full-time and half-time judges serve for non-renewable seven-year terms.

The UNAT is comprised of seven judges, who also serve for a fixed non-renewable seven-year term, and its seat is in New York.

The UN is presently undertaking a selection process to fill four half-time judicial positions in the UNDT.

Half-time judges work for up to six months in a calendar year in New York, Geneva or Nairobi. Half-time judges may not be deployed in a particular year or may be deployed less than a cumulative period of six months a year if their deployment is not justified by the UNDT’s caseload.

The President of the UNDT decides whether and where to deploy a half-time judge, including whether to make use of telecommuting in their deployment.

Mandatory qualifications for judges of the UNDT:

  1. All persons applying to serve as a judge of the UNDT must be of high moral character and impartial. 
  1. Candidates must have at least 10 years of judicial experience (i.e. experience as a judge or equivalent) in the field of administrative law, or the equivalent (e.g., employment law, law applicable to civil servants, civil litigation) within one or more national jurisdictions. 
  1. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. All candidates must be fluent, both orally and in writing, in English or French in order to conduct judicial proceedings, and draft decisions or judicial orders in either of the two languages.

A current or former judge of UNAT is ineligible to serve in the UNDT.

13 Feb 2019 - Model UN exercise preparation

TEHRAN, 13 February 2019-- A training session on Model UN Conference was organized in Tehran by the UN Information Centre (UNIC) at the UN Conference Room on 13 February 2019 with participation of some 20 graduate and undergraduate law students.

The Model UN Conference will simulate the session of the International Law Commission (ILC) on one the subjects on the agenda of this subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly entitled “Immunity of State Officials from Foreign Criminal Jurisdiction”.

At the opening of the training session, UNIC Public Information Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami, briefed the group on some links to the UN website, Basic Facts about the UN and the ILC at a Glance. She also helped the participants to learn how to navigate through the ILC with the emphasis on topics on its agenda, its relationship with the Office of Legal Affairs and the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly.  Rules of procedure were discussed, and the participants were briefed on their roles as the members of the Commission.

Persian and English copies of the UN Charter were distributed among the participants.

Then, Dr. Sattar Azizi, professor at Bu-Ali Sina University of Hamedan and a former participant of the ILC Annual Session in Geneva, spoke about the concept of immunity of state officials, its place in the jurisprudence of the international and domestic courts and its evolution in the process of the current work of the Commission. He also elaborated on different exceptions which are addressed regarding the two main types of immunity, namely ratione personae and ratione materiae.

“I am excited to play a role of an ILC member and participate in this useful exercise.  I will learn more about this Commission of the General Assembly and will practice my negotiations skills. I already learned a lot at the briefing, which followed by the discussions where we got answers to our questions”, said Mr Soheil Ghasemi, student of University of Tehran.

This simulation of the International Law Commission session will be held with the Iranian Association of UN Studies shortly after Iranian New Year (Nowruz) in April.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has made proposals to reform the United Nations since the beginning of his term in January 2017. To improve the delivery of our mandate, the United Nations is making sweeping changes in the following areas:

Development. The 2030 Agenda will require bold changes to the UN development system for the emergence of a new generation of country teams, centred on a strategic UN Development Assistance Framework and led by an impartial, independent and empowered resident coordinator.

Management. A new management paradigm for the Secretariat and a United Nations that empowers managers and staff, simplifies processes, increases transparency and improves on the delivery of our mandates.

Peace and Security. The overarching goals of the reform are to prioritize prevention and sustaining peace; enhance the effectiveness and coherence of peacekeeping operations and special political missions and move towards a single, integrated peace and security pillar.

5 Feb 2019 - Briefing on UN (UN4U) for Mesbah Elm high school students

TEHRAN - A group of 10 students along with two teachers from Mesbah Elm high school in Tehran, were briefed on the UN, its history and main organs as well as SDGs by UNIC National Information Officer Mohammad Moghadam at UN conference room on 5 February 2019.

He also answered the participants’ questions. Copies of the Persian version of UN System Chart, UDHR, UN Charter and UN Cards were given to the participants.

بهمن 97 - معرفی سازمان ملل متحد برای دانش آموزان دبیرستان مصباح علم

تهران – آقای محمد رجایی مقدم معاون مرکز اطلاعات سازمان ملل متحد در تهران طی جلسه ای در سالن کنفرانس ساختمان سازمان ملل متحد، تاریخ تاسیس سازمان ملل متحد، ارکان اصلی آن همچنین کارگزاری های تخصصی، برنامه ها و صندوق های سازمان ملل متحد فعال در جمهوری اسلامی ایران را برای 10 تن از دانش آموزان به همراه 2 تن از دبیران دبیرستان مصباح علم در تهران را در تاریخ 16 بهمن 1397 تشریح کرد.

وی مطالبی در مورد آرمان های توسعه پایدار برای آنان ارائه کرد. ایشان در این نشست به سئولات دانش آموزان نیز پاسخ داد.

منابع اطلاعاتی مانند منشور ملل متحد، اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشر، نمودار ساختار سازمان ملل متحد، و کارت های حاوی اطلاعات در باره فعالیت های جهانی سازمان ملل متحد به دانش آموزان تحویل داده شد.

آذر 97 - گرامی داشت هفتادمین سالگرد تصویب اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشردردانشگاه شهید بهشتی

دانشکده حقوق دانشگاه شهید بهشتی با مشارکت مرکز اطلاعات سازمان ملل متحد مراسمی را به مناسبت روز حقوق بشر و هفتادمین سالگرد تصویب اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشر در محل تالار عدالت دانشکده حقوق این دانشگاه دوشنبه 26 آذر برگزار کرد. پیام ویدیویی دبیر کل سازمان ملل متحد آنتونیو گوترش برای بیش از 200 فعال حقوق بشر، استاد و دانشجوی شرکت کننده در این گردهمایی به نمایش در آمد.

خانم اوگوچی دنیلز هماهنگ کننده مقیم ملل متحد در جمهوری اسلامی ایران، دکتر ابراهیم بیگ زاده رییس دانشکده حقوق دانشگاه شهید بهشتی، دکتر حسین میرمحمد صادقی رییس کرسی حقوق بشر، صلح و دموکراسی  یونسکو در دانشگاه شهید بهشتی، خانم دکتر ماریا دوتسنکو رییس مرکز اطلاعات سازمان ملل متحد در تهران، خانم شهیندخت مولاوردی دبیر کل انجمن حمایت از حقوق بشر زنان و دکترمحمد سید فاطمی عضو هئیت علمی دانشگاه شهید بهشتی از سخنرانان این همایش بودند.

در این مراسم ویدیو آموزشی و تئاتر درباره حقوق بشربه نمایش درآمد همچنین موسیقی سنتی توسط گروه موسیقی دانشگاه شهید بهشتی نیز اجرا شد. رونمایی از کتاب در باره حقوق میراث ناملموس فرهنگی در آسیا غربی و مرکزی تحت نظارت یونسکو به قلم  خانم دکتر جانت بلیک، کارگاه آموزشی بازی های رایانه ای برای آموزش حقوق بشر به وسیله دانشجوی دکتری خانم لادن حریری و کارگاه آموزشی نحوه چگونگی در خواست برای فرصت های شغلی بین المللی و شرح حال (رزومه) نویسی به وسیله کار آموز مرکز اطلاعات سازمان ملل متحد و دانشجوی ارشد حقوق بشر خانم شیما اسماعیلی از دیگر برنامه های این مراسم بود.

نمایشگاه عکس و اسناد تاریخی همکاری های ایران و سازمان ملل متحد نیز در معرض دید شرکت کنندگان در این مراسم  قرار گرفت. منابع اطلاعاتی سازمان ملل متحد نیز به دانشجویان و اساتید ارائه گردید.
