TEHRAN - An Exhibition of Historical Photos and Documents on UN-Iran Partnership was inaugurated by UN Information Centre National Information Officer Mohammad Rajai-Moghadam in the presence of Head of Interntional Relations Department of Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality Farshad Mivehchian at Arasbaran Cultural Centre in Tehran on 23 June 2019.
During the opening ceremony, Moghadam briefed Mivehchian and his colleagues on some of the most touching and interesting historic moments of UN and Iran relations which are captured in the photos:
Signing of the UN Charter on 26 July 1945 by the Head of the Iranian Delegation, Ambassador Mostafa Adl who chaired Iranian delegation and signed the Charter;
One of the key figures standing behind Mr Adl is Ambassador Nasrollah Entezam, who later Chaired Iranian Delegation to UN for 10 years and was later unanimously elected as the President of the 5th session of the UN General Assembly in 1950;
Iran served as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 1955-1956.
First UN Human Rights International Conference was conducted in Tehran in 1968 on the invitation of Iran and UN General Assembly issued resolution supporting this invitation. Historic Tehran Proclamation was adopted there;
It should be noted that Iran continues to play an important role with its global initiatives aimed on promotion of peace, friendship and dialogue: one of them Dialogue Among Civilizations was supported by the UN General Assembly and 2001 was proclaimed as the United Nations Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations;
Another fresh initiative of His Excellency Dr Rouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran called "World Against Violence and Extremism" was firmly supported by the UN Member States of the UN General Assembly and UN General Assembly adopted resolution supporting it in 2013, again in 2015 and again in 2017;
The exhibition is open to public till 30 June 2019. Copies of the Persian version of UN System Chart, UDHR, UN Charter and UN Cards were given to the participants. The event was posted on UNIC Tehran’s Facebook, linkedin, twitter, telegram, Instagram and Google+.
