5 July 2017 - Text of Tehran Ministerial Declaration

 We, the Ministers and high-level representatives participating in the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms:

Having met in Tehran to exchange views, share experiences and best practices on combating Sand and Dust Storms and to contribute to global and regional efforts to put forward a concerted and collective response to this serious challenge.

Recalling the UNGA Resolutions 70/195, 71/219, UNEA II Resolution 2/21 and WMO Congress Decision Cg-XV/3.3.3.6, UNESCAP Resolution 72/7 in which Sand and Dust Storms has been acknowledged to be posing a daunting challenge to the sustainable development of affected countries including and in particular in Asia and Africa and that coordinated prompt measures are needed to address it at national, regional and global levels.

Acknowledging that Sand and Dust Storms, which are on the rise in terms of severity and frequency in many parts of the world, are detrimental to human health, agricultural land, livelihoods, coastal and marine environment, infrastructure, and the socio-economic systems, in all affected countries.

Fully aware that Sand and Dust Storms occur due to natural biogeochemical cycles of the Earth and human-induced factors, including climate change, and unsustainable land management and water use.

Recognizing the negative impacts of Sand and Dust Storms on some countries and regions that are far away from their hot spots, due to their trans-boundary nature.

Further recognising that combating the challenge of Sand and Dust Storms requires concerted and collaborative global, regional and sub-regional as well as national responses to address this phenomenon and also underlining the role of United Nations in promoting international cooperation and partnerships among countries and other relevant stakeholders to combat Sand and Dust Storms.

Agree to cooperate on combating Sand and Dust Storms at sub-regional regional, and international levels on the following:

  1. Share information, lessons learnt and best practices, exchange views and expertise, develop mitigation and adaptation policies and measures, exchange technical and monitored data and forecasting information to reduce the risk of Sand and Dust Storms.
  1. Strengthen national legal and institutional frameworks to share early warning information of Sand and Dust Storms and raise awareness and promote integrated and synergistic actions across sectors and foster strengthened cooperation among relevant institutions at global, regional and national levels.
  1. Enhance public awareness on the impact and cost of Sand and Dust Storms on human health, agricultural practice, food security, infrastructure, transport and in general socio-economic sectors and the environment and partnerships among relevant stake holders on mitigation of the impacts.
  1. Collectively endeavour to enhance cooperation and coordination at global, regional and sub-regional levels to address the causes and impacts of Sand and Dust Storms including through the promotion of sustainable water use and land management, to reduce future Sand and Dust Storms risks and impacts.
  1. Develop and implement a strategy on disaster risk reduction and resilience to promote sustainable land management and water use in croplands, rangelands, wetlands, deserts as well as rural and urban areas.
  1. Strengthen research activities for effective monitoring, impact based assessment and forecasting and early warning mechanism for Sand and Dust Storms, to address disaster prevention and mitigation and for development of appropriate preparedness and effective response to Sand and dust storms,
  1. Encourage enhanced regional and international cooperation to observe and forecast, mitigate and cope with the adverse effects of Sand and Dust Storms, and seek technical and financial support from the relevant United Nations organisations to that end.
  1. Consider to further develop policy dialogue on responding to the issues of Sand and Dust Storms among interested countries in partnership with relevant international bodies and organizations, including the establishment of a future platform, in synergy with relevant United Nations System.
  1. Recognize the role of the Asian and Pacific Center for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), regional seas programs and SDS-WAS, to develop human and institutional capacity through strengthened regional cooperation in disaster information management.
  1. Invite the Environment Management Group (EMG) of the UN to consider initiating an inter-agency process involving relevant UN system warranting to prepare a global response to Sand and Dust Storms including a situation analysis, Strategy and an Action Plan. This could result in developing a UN-wide approach in addressing Sand and Dust Storms which can be used as an inter-agency framework for mid- or long-term cooperation and division of labour.
  1. Request the UN General Assembly to consider this declaration for appropriate actions.
  1. Express our deepest gratitude to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the excellent arrangements and the warm hospitality they extended to participants in this important International Conference.

تیر 96 - جایزه بین المللی دبی برای"بهترین عملکردهای بهبود محیط زندگی"

تهران 14 تیر 1396 (مرکز اطلاعات سازمان ملل متحد) -- برنامه اسکان بشر ملل متحد و شهرداری دبی جایزه بین المللی دبی برای بهترین عملکردهای بهبود محیط زندگی را  برگزار می کنند.

"جایزه بین المللی دبی برای بهترین عملکردهای بهبود محیط زندگی" امسال در حالی برگزار می شود که دستورکار جدید شهری در اکتبر سال 2016 به تصویب رسیده است و این جایزه فرصت منحصر به فردی را جهت معرفی موثرترین مداخلات برای بهبود زندگی شهرنشینان در سراسر جهان فراهم می کند. این جایزه  بین المللی که در راستای آرمان یازدهم توسعه پایدار (ایجاد شهرها و سکونتگاه های فراگیر، ایمن، تاب آور و پایدار) ارائه می شود، عملکردهایی را به رسمیت می شناسد که:

تأثیر آشکار و قابل ملاحظه ای در بهبود کیفیت زندگی مردم داشته باشد؛

نتیجه همکاری مؤثر بین بخش های عمومی، خصوصی و مدنی جامعه باشند؛

در ابعاد اجتماعی، فرهنگی، اقتصادی و زیست محیطی پایدار باشند.

این جایزه نشانگر تعهد به توسعه پایدار سکونتگاه های انسانی و حفاظت از محیط زیست است و به عنوان نتیجه همکاری نزدیک و تنگاتنگ با برنامه اسکان بشر ملل متحد، اهمیت مشارکت قوی و هماهنگ در اجرای دستورکار جدید شهری ونیل به  آرمان یازدهم توسعه پایدار در ایجاد سکونتگاه هایی است که از نظر اجتماعی، اقتصادی و زیست­محیطی برای همه پایدارهستند.

شرکت در این رقابت برای تمامی بخش ها از جمله دولت های ملی و منطقه ای، مقامات محلی و انجمن های آنها،  سازمان های غیر دولتی، سازمان های چند جانبه، سازمان های جامعه محور، موسسات تحقیقاتی و آموزشی، بنیادهای های عمومی و خصوصی، نهادهای رسانه ای و سایر افراد آزاد است و برای شرکت در این مسابقه هزینه ای دریافت نمی شود.

جوایز این مسابقه در پنج بخش و در قالب دو جایزه 30000 دلاری و 15000 دلاری اعطا می گردد.

مهلت ارسال مدارک برای شرکت در این رقابت 9 شهریور 1396 است.

5 July 2017 - The Dubai International Award for Best Practices in Association with UN-Habitat

TEHRAN, 5 July 2017 (UNIC) -- The Dubai Municipality and UN-Habitat have launched “The Dubai International Award for Best Practices” competition on Best Practices.

The Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment will be presented this year in the light of New Urban Agenda, signed in October 2016. This Award is an exclusive opportunity to show case the most effective interventions for improving the lives of urban residents around the globe and is in line with Sustainable Development Goals.

The Best Practice Award recognizes significant contributions which:

  • Have a demonstrable and tangible impact on improving people’s quality of life;
  • Are the result of effective partnerships between the public, private and civic sectors of society;
  • Are socially, culturally, economically and environmentally sustainable.

In addition, the award reflects the commitment to sustainable development of human settlements and the protection of the environment and is the result of working closely with UN-Habitat as well as importance of strong and coherent partnerships in implementing the New Urban Agenda and SDG 11, in delivering socially, economically and environmentally sustainable cities for all.

The award is open to all sectors: national and regional governments; local authorities and their associations; non-governmental organizations; multilateral agencies; community based organizations; research and academic institutions; public and private foundations; media entities and individuals. No fees will be charged for registering in this competition.

There are 5 categories of entries available and the winners are given prizes of USD 30000 and USD 15000.

Final deadline for submissions is 31 August 2017.

تیر 96 - همایش منطقه ای سالمندی جمعیت و پیامدهای مرتبط با سیاست گذاری امروز، 16 تیر با 2 بازدید از مراکز سالمندان ادامه پیدا کرد

مرکز آموزش و توانبخشی روزانه سالمندان شمس، یک مرکز خصوصی در شهر تبریز می باشد که توسط سازمان بهزیستی حمایت می شود وخدمات تخصصی، آموزشی، هنری و تفریحی به زنان سالمند ارائه می دهد. این مرکز درمنزل شخصی واقع شده و توسط خانم جوان روانشناس اداره میگردد. علاوه بر خدمات فوق، خدمات روانشناسی و فیزیوتراپی نیز در اختیار سالمندان قرار میگیرد. مدیر این مرکز توضیح می دهد:" ما یک روانشناس، یک پزشک به صورت پاره وقت و یک متخصص کاردرمانی داریم." این مرکز حدودا به 50 سالمند خدمات ارائه می دهد. یک زن سالمند 80 ساله می گوید:  "من برای ورزش کردن، شادی کردن و گاهی اوقات گفتگو با دوستانم به این مرکز می آیم.".

هنگام ورود هیات بازدید کننده، تعدادی از سالمندان با نشاطی فراوان مشغول نرمش در حیاط بودند. بازدید کنندگان در هوای گرم تبریز با یک لیوان نوشیدنی سرد و نان تازه که توسط سالمندان تهیه شده بود مورد استقبال قرار گرفتند. انواع مرباهای خانگی دست پخت سالمندان، در آشپزخانه برای فروش چیده شده بود.

خانه سالمندان نسیم جزئی از مجموعه فیاض بخش می باشد که به معلولین و سالمندان خدمات شبانه روزی ارائه می هد و تعامل این دو گروه باعث پویایی  و نشاط محیط می شود. این مجموعه توسط خیرین و سازمان بهزیستی حمایت مالی می گردد.

آقای دکترارشدزاده، مدیرکل سازمان بهزیستی استان آذربایجان شرقی، توضیح می دهد که خانه سالمندان نسیم ظرفیت پذیرش 50 زن سالمند که فاقد حمایت خانوادگی می باشند، را دارد. این مرکز از خدمات 9 پرستار، یک دندانپزشک، یک پزشک، و 3 روانشناس بهره مند می باشد.

بازدید دوم با پذیرایی و اجرای سرود توسط گروهی اززنان معلول خاتمه یافت. خانم دکتر لیلا جودان، نماینده صندوق جمعیت ملل متحد در ایران  از مقامات و کارمندان این مرکز صمیمانه تشکر کرد.

5 July 2017 - The Regional Forum on Ageing ends with field visits of Rehabilitation Centers and Nursing Homes.

Tabriz, 5 July 2017-The Regional Forum on Policy Implication of Population Ageing continued today with field visits of a day rehabilitation center, and a nursing home in Tabriz.

The Shams Rehabilitation and Educational center is a private day care facility in the city of Tabriz, partially subsidized by the Welfare Organization, and providing specialized recreational, artistic, and educational services for older women.  The center, a privately owned house, managed by a young psychologist lady also offers psychological services and physical therapy. “We have a psychologist, a visiting physician, and an occupational therapist”, explains the manager. The center has approximately 50 visiting members. “I come here to exercise, to dance, and sometimes to chat with friends”, says one 80-year old woman. 

When the forum participants arrived at the center, a few cheerful members were exercising in the entrance courtyard. The visitors were warmly welcomed with cold melon juice and freshly baked bread.  Colorful home-made jams were placed for sale in the kitchen.

The Nassim Mehr Nursing Home is part of the Fayyaz Bakhsh Complex for disabled people.  The complex sits on the green grounds of the Welfare Organization, and provides services for disabled and older women, where the interaction between the two groups generates liveliness and dynamism.

Nassim Mehr Nursing Home is mainly funded by private donors and charities, and is subsidized by the Welfare Organization.  Mr. Arshadzadeh, Director General of East Azarbaijan Welfare Organization, explained that the nursing home has the capacity for 50 older women who do not have any kind of family support.  The nursing home has 9 nurses, 1 dentist, 1 physician and 3 psychologists, and offers services 24/7. The visit ended by fruits and cold drinks, and a song performance by a group of women.  Dr. Leila Joudane, UNFPA Representative, warmly thanked the staff and authorities for organizing such a fruitful visit.
