TEHRAN - Former interns of UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, Niousha (Rose) Vafamanesh, Dena Razmehr, Kimia Ghavami, Shadi Rouhshahbaz, Seyed Mohsen Seyed Ahmadi, Fatemeh (Sara) Fadaei and Siavash Chavoshi received their certificate of appreciation signed by Director of the IOM Office to the UN International Organization for Migration, Ashraf El Nour and Director of United Nations Alliance of Civilization, Matthew Hodes, from UNIC Director, Maria Dotsenko, and IOM Officer-in-Charge in Iran, Mohammad Safari, at UNIC on 28 February 2019.
PLURAL+ 2018 Awards ceremony was held on the 19th of November at the United Nations Headquarters in New York; This year, the festival received 371 video entries from all around the world.
The Iranian UNIC interns’ video “Life without Borders” had been part of the PLURAL+ 2018 program and has won the awards of “the Paley Center for Media” as well as “the Media Education Centre” of the Plural+ video festival and will be showcased around the world in educational, noncommercial, venues (festivals, schools, conferences, etc.).
Despite all their efforts, UNIC interns have not been given US Visa and they have not succeeded in attending the ceremony. A video in which Sara Fadaei, UNIC intern, expressed their feeling about winning the award as well as the reason of their absence has been shown at Plural+ awards ceremony, in New York, on 19 November 2018.
PLURAL+ is a joint initiative between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with a network of over 50 partner organizations, that support the creative efforts of young people and distribute their videos worldwide. It is a youth-produced video festival which encourages young people to explore migration, diversity and social inclusion, and to share their creative vision with the world.
Niousha Vafamanesh, UNIC Intern and editor of the video said “This festival was a great opportunity for us to express our opinion and now, I am happy that many young people will watch it. I am proud that our joint efforts were noticed by the jury and we won this prestigious award.”
Maria Dotsenko and Mohammad Safari congratulated UNIC interns and encouraged them to continue working hard for realizing their dreams.
