Green Banking Initiative

UNDP supports Bank Keshavarzi of Iran, the national development bank for natural resources and agriculture development, in its objective to improve its “green” banking. These practices can help ensure both inclusive growth and sustainable development outcomes in the sector and at the local level. It aims to integrate “development” and “banking”.

Intensified Malaria Control High Burden Provinces towards Falciparum Elimination

Malaria is the most dangerous parasitic and vector-borne disease in Iran. Elimination of malaria is in line with the objectives of Iran’s National Development Plan. To support Iran in its attainment of this goal, a partnership has been formed between the Global Fund, the Ministry of Health, UNDP and the World Health Organization.

HIV/AIDS is not a generalised epidemic in Iran. However, its concentration among certain populations is noticeable. The partnership with the Global Fund started with an HIV grant in 2005 to strengthen surveillance and monitoring, disseminate information about HIV, reduce HIV risk and vulnerability, and improve access to quality care and treatment. This was followed by two subsequent Global Fund grants approved in 2010 and 2015.

In addition to their important biodiversity and landscape values, the Caspian Hyrcanian Forests provide multiple environmental, social and economic benefits for the Iranian people. They are also of deep cultural significance and still exhibit many traditional ways of life among local communities.

MENARID - Institutional Strengthening and Coherence for Integrated Natural Resource Management

MENARID is a Middle East and North Africa regional programme for Integrated Sustainable Development. MENARID provides valuable lessons and experiences for promoting Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid environments. It also addresses regions suffering severe land degradation and loss of ecosystem services.
